HONG KONG (AP) -- Hollywood studio Twentieth Century Fox plans to make a movie version of the popular Japanese comic book series "Dragonball" -- with help from a famed filmmaker from Hong Kong, where Japanese comics and animation are popular.

Fox said in a statement issued Wednesday in Hong Kong that local comedian Stephen Chow will produce the live action movie "Dragonball" and James Wong, a former writer for the TV series "The X-Files" and director of "Final Destination," will direct.

Chow's credits include "Shaolin Soccer" and "Kung Fu Hustle."

　米映画会社、２０世紀フォックスは１４日、香港で声明を発表し、日本の人気漫画・アニメ「ドラゴンボール」（鳥山明原作）を実写映画化することを公表。メキシコなどで今月中に撮影が始まり、２００８年８月１５日の世界同時公開を目指す。

　実写版「ドラゴンボール」は、「少林サッカー」（２００１年、香港）、「カンフーハッスル」（２００４。年香港）を監督したジェームズ・ウォン監督がメガホンを執り、脚本も担当。主人公の悟空はジャスティン・チャットウィン、敵役のピッコロはジェームズ・マースターズが演ずる。
